After the Algerian football team suffered a 4 – 0 loss against Morocco during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game, which was held last month in Marrakech, their coach, Abdelhak Benchikha resigned from his position. The defeat seriously endangered the team’s chances of participating in Equatorial Guinea and in Gabon in 2012. The next tournament will get underway in 2013, which will be held in Libya. This was done to avoid the Africa Cup of Nations colliding with the World Cup. To reach their goals, Algeria has appointed a new coach.

On Friday, 18 June 2010, Algeria showed the world why they deserve to be in the World Cup. The Algerian team ran out onto the field at Green Point Stadium, Cape Town, in South Africa, with clear determination, and even though they were facing off against England they displayed no sign of fear. Many thought that the match would glide into the hands of the English, but Algeria delivered a magnificent performance, seeing to it that the match ended in a 0-0 draw. Both teams would have preferred to score a goal, but either way, Algeria showcased their worth to the dismay of England.

When looking at a country, each town and city has its own history, from its establishment through to its continued growth and development. Usually, cities begin as small settlements that grow from there, and it is very rare to hear of a country has decided to build a new town or city. In the case of the new La Ville Nouvelle de Hassi Messaoud town, Algeria has made the decision to begin construction so as to provide housing for approximately eighty thousand residents who work for the oil fields.

With the theme of “Better City – Better Life” the city of Shanghai in China will be hosting the 2010 Shanghai World Expo from 1 May through to 31 October 2010. Of the 191 countries that were issued with official invitations from China’s central government to participate in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, Algeria was among the first countries to respond. On 13 November 2008, Algeria’s commissioner general for the Expo, Bensalem Mohamed, met with deputy director general of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, Zhou Hanmin, to sign the necessary paperwork for participation in the Expo.

Supporters of the Algerian national football team admit to having mixed emotions as their team heads off to Liberia on 9 October in preparation for their critical match against the Liberian team on Saturday for combined qualifiers to the Africa Cup of Nations and 2010 World Cup. In order to proceed in the tournaments, the greens (as the team is often referred to) need the three points that a win on Saturday will give them.
