March 13, 2008 -- The International Red Cross and Algeria's Ministry of Religious Affairs held a three-day training course for Algerian religious leaders on the application of international humanitarian law. The workshop kicked off on Wednesday (March 12th) in Algiers to raise awareness about how to treat prisoners and the injured in times of conflict. It also provides guidance on the need for the respect of human rights in areas of conflict. One of the goals of the training is to highlight that international humanitarian practices are compatible with Islam. More than 90 imams and religious leaders are attending the course.
