La colère des associations de Timimoun

Samedi 19 Décembre 2009 -- Les associations locales et les agences de voyage de Timimoun sont en colère après leur mise à l’écart total de l’organisation du 4ème Festival des Peuples des Déserts du Monde, qui commence aujourd’hui dans le célèbre oasis rouge du Gourara. L’organisation du festival a été confiée à une association du Nord du pays dans des conditions peu claires. “C’est scandaleux ! On est complètement méprisé, comme s’il n’existait aucun professionnel du tourisme à Timimoun. Au fait, pour qui ce festival est-il organisé ?”, s’est interrogé un responsable d’une agence locale de tourisme. Des dizaines d’artistes et de journalistes étrangers ont été invités à ce festival dont la troupe de danseurs américains First Nations Dance Company (FNDC), qui visite l’Algérie pour la première fois. La manifestation est organisée par la Fondation Déserts du monde que préside Chérif Rahmani, ministre de l'Aménagement du Territoire, de l’Environnement et du Tourisme. Déserts du monde, qui se définit comme une organisation intergouvernementale « OIG » internationale indépendante, a été lancée en 2002. Elle a son siège à Ghardaïa. Elle a un statut d’observateur permanent auprès du Conseil Économique et Social des Nations Unies.

World Deserts Festival kicks off in Tinerkouk, Algeria

ADRAR, December 22, 2009 (NNN-APS) — The World Deserts Festival has started in the town of Tinerkouk, 300km north of the administrative centre of Adrar, 1,550 km south of the Algerian capital, at the initiative of the World Deserts Foundation. Coinciding with the opening of the tourist season in the country’s south, the festival includes an exhibition of craft industry at the junction of caravans “Khan El Gouafel,” commonly known as “El Bordj,” in the nature reserve of Tinerkouk.

Initiated by the Ministry of Environment, Tourism and National Planning, in co-ordination with Algeria’s National Office of Tourism (ONT), the event, according to its organizers, is aimed at promoting ecological tourism, drawing world desert populations together by shedding light on their cultures and customs as well as considering possible tourist investments. The event, which kicked off Saturday, was attended by a number of senior high-ranking African, Arab and European diplomats accredited to Algeria, in addition to artistic troupes of different nationalities and some national associations.

The one-day programme included an artistic evening in honour of the participating delegations, and the organization of walks at some tourist places and visits to old Ksour (old fortified villages) and oasis in Tinerkouk. The international festival has benefited from extensive media coverage aiming at marketing Algerian tourist products, in general, and Saharan products in particular.
