Algerian Transport Minister Mohamed Maghaluoi and Lucio Guerrato, director of the European Commission delegation to Algeria, signed an agreement for financing a transport sector development programme on Monday (November 13th), Le Jeune Independent reported. The EU will earmark 20m euros for the 25m-euro programme, with the remaining funds being provided by the Algerian government.
The overall goal of the programme is to raise the competitiveness of the sector and its attractiveness to foreign and local investors. The programme envisages working out the necessary instruments for the sectors' liberalisation and strengthening the institutional framework and the administrative capacities of the under-sectors of the Transport Ministry.
