Harris Corporation awarded $15 Million contract from Telediffusion d'Algérie

CINCINNATI, October 1, 2007 (PRNewswire-FirstCall) -- Harris Corporation, an international communications and information technology company, has been awarded a $15 million contract to deploy two turnkey, medium-wave radio transmission stations for the Algerian Government's Telediffusion d'Algérie (TDA), the Algerian public broadcasting corporation. The stations, at F'kirina and Sidi Bel Abbes, are part of the government's program to modernize the country's television and radio infrastructure.

The project, to be completed in 2009, includes the design and construction of the two radio transmission stations, the procurement and installation of the towers and the antenna systems, as well as the delivery and installation of 600kW medium-wave AM transmitters.

TDA will utilize its Harris DX(R) series of high-power radio transmitters, which already has a very large installed base worldwide. The DX(R) transmitters feature high reliability, exceptional modulation capability, best-in-class efficiency and ease of use, as well as excellent audio performance. The DX transmitters are designed to broadcast analogue or digital in the HD Radio(TM) or Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) standards.

"We are very excited about the new Harris transmitters as they provide us with much lower operating costs, significantly improved coverage and audio quality, and an opportunity to move towards DRM when this is needed," said Abdelmalek Houyou, managing director, Telediffusion D'Algerie. "With hundreds of DX(R) high-power transmitters installed worldwide, the digital-ready DX(R) series was selected based on its superior technical merits for our application at Telediffusion d'Algérie."

"This is a significant project for Harris and we are working with our preferred vendors to provide a turnkey system that includes the transmitters, the construction of the transmission stations and the installation of the antennas," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. "We continue to be a market leader with our digital-ready radio transmission solutions, and this contract is proof that we operate at the highest of levels in this arena."
