Mardi 6 Mars 2007 - - Le groupe égyptien Al Ezz Steel Rebars (Ezz Steel), leader dans la fabrication d’acier, projette de s’implanter en Algérie. En effet, le ministre de l’Industrie, Mahmoud Khoudri, a rencontré hier le P-dg de ce groupe, Ahmed Al- Ezz, venu discuter avec lui des possibilités d’implanter une usine de production d’acier.

De fait, ce groupe égyptien s’intéresse au développement du secteur du logement dans notre pays où il veut élargir son champ d’action, étant leader en Moyen-Orient avec de larges parts de marché en Europe et en Amérique du Nord. En notant que ce groupe, avec une production de 5,3 millions de tonnes de produits finis, affichait en 2005 un chiffre d’affaires à l’exportation de 678 millions de dollars, un chiffre d’affaires (combined turnover) de 2,1 milliards de dollars, un effectif de 6000 employés et une productivité de 800 tonnes par employé par an, l’une des plus élevées dans le monde.

At the end of the first week of March Ezz Steel Rebars announced that it would build a greenfield steel plant in Algeria. The project is expected to cost $700 million and will have an initial capacity of 1.5 million tons per year. Algeria, like Egypt, is experiencing a surge in construction activity for which it lacks the sufficient steel yet has an abundance of iron ore. Ezz’s expansion into the Algerian market holds great potential for the company. The good news was tempered by that of the duty levied on steel exports, leaving the stock 6% lower at LE 50.96 at the end of the reporting period.

CAIRO, August 31, 2007 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Minister of Commerce and Industry Rasheed Mohammad Rasheed said on Friday his country was studying the possibility of establishing an Egyptian industrial area in Algeria and strike a free trade agreement to allow entry of Egyptian products to Algeria.

In a press statement, Rasheed said the first meeting of the Egyptian-Algerian commercial committee would kick off here next Wednesday to discuss means of strengthening economic, investment and trade cooperation between the two countries.

The minister added that the two sides were also discussing the possibility of establishing joint industrial projects in both countries that would generate new job opportunities for Egyptians and Algerians.

He said that his government was keen on offering all types of support and assistance for the establishment of these projects.

Les Egyptiens veulent reprendre leur place sur le marché algérien

Mardi 16 Octobre 2007 -- Le groupe égyptien de fabrication d’acier, Ezz Industries, s’implante en Algérie. Un accord a été signé, lundi 15 octobre à Jijel, entre la société égyptienne et le ministère de l’Industrie pour la construction d’une usine d’acier. Montant de l’investissement : 750 millions de dollars. La future usine, dont une partie de la production sera destinée à l’exportation, s'implantera à Jijel, dans l’est du pays. Ce choix n’est pas fortuit : il va notamment permettre au complexe de profiter pleinement des infrastructures modernes du futur port de Djendjen. Ce dernier ambitionne en effet de concurrencer directement celui de Tanger (Maroc), l’un des plus modernes de Méditerranée.

Une fois son usine installée, Ezz Industries prévoit un investissement supplémentaire de 500 millions de dollars pour porter sa capacité de production à 1,5 millions de tonnes par an. Le groupe égyptien n’a donné aucune indication sur les délais de réalisation de ses projets algériens. Le projet d’Ezz Industries s’est concrétisé assez rapidement : c’est en mars dernier que le président du groupe avait annoncé son intention d’investir en Algérie. Fin août, il a été reçu par le chef du gouvernement Abdelaziz Belkhadem pour un feu vert définitif à ses projets.

Avec un chiffre d’affaires annuel de 2 milliards de dollars, Ezz Industries est l’un des leaders de l’acier dans la région du Moyen-Orient. En Algérie, grâce à ce projet, le groupe entend profiter pleinement de l’essor du secteur de l’habitat, avec la réalisation du programme de construction d’un million de logements d’ici à 2009 lancé par le gouvernement.

October 16, 2007 -- Ezz Steel Company, the Middle East's largest steel producer, inked an agreement with the Algerian government on Monday (October 15th) to build a $750m steel plant, designed mainly for the re-exportation of its output, APS reported. The plant is expected to generate some 2,000 direct jobs, the company said, adding that an estimated $500 million worth of additional investments will be poured into the plant at later stages. Several Egyptian cement and steel producers are expanding into the Algerian market, benefiting from a boom in public spending for affordable housing and relatively cheap and abundant raw materials.
