    Croatia - Algeria business ties

February 12, 2009 -- Zagreb-based INGRA (Ingra) said it has secured several new contracts on its biggest foreign market, Algeria, totaling 7.8 million euros, for developing designs, delivering and implementing hydromechanical equipment for the SAF river dam, and also for expanding two ports in the African country.

According to the INGRA statement, the deadline to complete the 2.4 million euro work for the SAF river dam is 10 months. INGRA’s main partner in Algeria has been the country’s ministry for public works, including for contracts in the energy sector, naval facilities and health care facilities.

The Croatian company also said it expected to win a portion of a major, 70 million euro job for building a military hospital in Algeria.

Meanwhile, INGRA’s offer of newly issued stock in the planned 150 million kuna (20.3 million euro) capital hike on the Zagreb bourse attracted little interest. The 75% threshold was set for the attempted capital increase to be successful, but less than 2% of the shares were subscribed for in the first round.

Analysts believe that the main problem has been the price, set at 80 kuna (10.8 euros) a piece, while the falling market has reduced it to 62 kuna (8.38 euros) per share. The failure could pose a liquidity problem for INGRA.
