Dear computer gorou, Can you kindly advise me on which brand to buy? I am living Japan for good and my PC is 4 years old. I need to get new one to take back to Europe but I am confused since there are so many brands. I have used Sony Vio and Toshiba so far. Which brand is widely used in EU especially in France so that I will have no problem using the warranty to repair it if I need to?

Highly appreciate your help and sincere adviceļ

Any Brand is ok...Try to avoid exotic ones
I dislike Sony laptops coz they have many proprietary features and they stick you to them when buying any other related products...

Phylay, thank you!Would you elaborate on those exotic brands? What do you mean?

I don’t think they have agent for Sharp, Panasonic, lets note, Sotec, NEC, HP and the list goes on and on.

I spend days in Akihabara(B E C on Earth) checking the latest lap tops, it is mind boggling

    Hi everyone,

Why are u focusing on american products, are u pro Bushist? There are a loads of better materials out there in the market today.
And in anyway u don't evaluate the PC or a Laptop by its brand, we evaluate it by its COMPONENTS(Processor, Chipsets, RAM And OS, etc....)

So, if u want to get a good laptop, check first the components its made of first, then which software are already installed on it, then the "after buying services" and support u can get from the retailer or the manufacturer.

I recommend u to read this book to understand more about buying a PC before u get into it(If its not too late)
"Buying a computer for Dummies" its a good one to start of if u r a first time PC buyer.
You don't have to read it all, just read the Chapters that interest you.
