It is a difficult PR battle for Google in some respects, is it not, ya Amina? The issue that the U.S. Justice Department is ostensibly pushing - child protection - leaves Google looking as though it is blocking a measure aimed at identifying potential criminals and abusers.

The reality, that if the U.S. Justice Department got its way then advantage could be taken of the millions of millions of records harvested and the browsing habits and interests, political and otherwise, of millions of identifiable people would in all likelihood be carefully logged and noted, is not one that is getting the 'right to privacy' attention it ought to be getting.

Concerns by Google Inc. that a Bush administration demand to examine millions of its users' Internet search requests would violate privacy rights are unwarranted, the Justice Department said in a court filing.

The 18-page brief filed Friday argues that because the information provided would not identify or be traceable to specific users, privacy rights would not be violated.

The brief was the Justice Department's reply to strident arguments filed by Google last week as a rebuff the government's demand to review its search requests during a random week....

Did you know that the folders explorer proposed by Google saves your computer (files,..etc) information over a sliding 30 days...
I am convinced the internet search history is not the only thing the US justice department will ask Google for...
