    7 Tips to Search Gmail

You can do all this stuff using the ‘Show search options’ button. But if you like doing things simple, quick and using your keyboard then these tips might just be useful.

    1. Some standard tags to find e-mails (their function can be easily deduced):
    from:

    to:

    subject:

    label:

All you have to do is type it in the search box like so:
    from:co_worker@domain.com
    or maybe
    to:beloved_wife@gmail.com
You can see the people you’ve sent emails to that have an email address with gmail by searching:
    to:*@gmail.com is:sent

    2. Another search criteria is filename:.
After it, you can add the name of a file attached to a e-mail, putting there only the extension and it will find all the files with the given extension.

    3. The has: search option is particularly useful when searching for all mails with attachments. In essence, you do has:attachments.

    4. A interesting combination is in: and is:.
It tells Google where to look ( inbox, spam, anywhere but it does not work with the ’sent’ folder) and is: has several values (starred, unread, read).

You can use them separately or you can come up with expressions like:
    in:inbox is:unread

    5. Try this too:
    sent:Wednesday

    6. You can also use google common search terms like
    intext:

    7. There are also several searches you will find easy to understand:
    before:date (yyyy/mm/dd)

    after:date

    cc:

    bcc:

Now that you know this basic syntax you can evolve using combined searches like:
    to:abcdefg subject:hardware

    from:abcdefg before:2006/01/23 subject:games “WoW” price

There you have it, the possibilities are practically infinite.
*** It works also with Yahoo! and hotmail.

How about a 3.5GB quota in your Gmail?

GMail to hit 3.5 GB Storage Space. Google has updated the code to calculate storage space for five years into the future, stopping at 3.47 GB. The new code goes up to 2012.

The Gmail login page updated to reflect new targets for the amount of space each account gets. The counter on that page is always counting up, and you can actually see what it is counting to.

With the new update, here’s the new space targets and how many days until that much space is hit by the counter on the page:
    2800MB: Already reached
    2835MB: In 18.22 days
    2980MB: In 384 days
    3125MB: In 749 days
    3270MB: In 1114 days
    3415MB: In 1479 days
    3560MB: In 1845 days
The last target is 3560MB, which is about 3.47GB of space. But that’s over 60 months (5 years) away!
