June 5, 2007 -- The National security department has set up an Intranet system between different police services in addition to a website that includes the activities of the police in fighting crime.
According to an official in the police computer department, Fouzia Kini, police services have been provided with computer networks within the framework of modernising the police.
Different police services of the 48 wilayas (provinces) were linked to each other by a computer network including a database relating to human resources management and all information about police employees, said the same official.
“This new system allows the issuing of any kind of document without going to the head office of the security department,” Kini said.
She also revealed that tickets windows at the international airport of Algiers were provided with modernised computer systems and linked to the general department of national security.
“These measures facilitate the identification of wanted people, for instance,” she added.
The officer indicated that security measures are tight in the room where data is stored. Not all employees are allowed to enter into it. The police computer department has recently linked its different services to 38 courts in Algeria.
In this regard, information is collected, treated and then stored, said officer Sofiane Belhaj.
