Google Socialstream
Google Operating System is reporting that Google is sponsoring a project (*) at Carnegie Mellon University's Human-Computer Interaction Institute to "rethink and reinvent online social networking." The project is called Socialstream.
SocialStream, as the project is called, would let you post content to and from social networks. There’s a demo video below, and the project aims to be user-centric, rather than network centric.
It will be interesting to see if this project ever becomes orkut 2.0, a unified social network that lets you keep in touch no matter if they use Blogger, Wordpress, Twitter, Flickr, Picasa Web, YouTube, MySpace, Friendster, Facebook or other services.
----------------------(*) “Google-sponsored” doesn’t necessarily mean “Google will launch this”

Maktoob.com + faye3.com = New Arab Networking Site
Maktoob.com and Faye3 have teamed up to develop an Arab social networking site, according to a local newspaper report.
The two sites are working on a joint initiative aimed at providing a service that will allow Arab communities to link up online and share contacts, Emirates Today reported.
The initiative comes shortly after Etisalat banned social networking site Orkut.com upon orders from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA). The TRA issued a formal letter to the UAE's internet service providers to block the Google-owned site after receiving complaints that the site posted objectionable material."A significant number of Arabs seek online social communication through non-Arabic websites," Samih Toukan, chief executive of internet services company Maktoob told the newspaper. "The world is developing in online communications and the Arab world should not be lagging behind."

myM - Yet Another Social Service
myM - Yet Another Social Service
Yahoo has launched, in an invitation-only trial, MyM, a "social messaging" service.

How many social networks does one company need ? Nowhere are Yahoo's scattershot efforts more evident than in this field. On top of Yahoo Mash, Yahoo 360, Del.icio.us, Flickr, and -- if you believe Yahoo president Sue Decker -- Yahoo Mail, you can now add MyM to the list.Sed et tortor vitae turpis blandit fermentum. Integer lacus turpis, sem. Aliquam erat volutpat. Suspendisse a nibh ut dolor facilisis molestie. Sed et pede. Sed vitae leo. Phasellus varius ultricies eros. Sed tempor, metus id adipiscing porttitor, diam turpis tempor eros. Nam id libero ut nisl posuere ultricies. Phasellus sed nibh eget lorem consectetuer tempus. Volutpat.
