I have seen the street food that is available in Khartoum, Morrocco,
in the Travel Section of The Nat Geo Channel.
So many varieties of kebabs being grilled on charcoal fire on rows of push carts!
And so many varieties, which is strange to me.
Hardy people with rugged face in head tubans standing and eating them.
But no woman to be seen! strange!!
And most of them meats, nothing much of veggies.
Dont you Algerians eat much of vegetarian foods?

Hello Nesreen dear!Originally posted by nesreen
in Oran Sweet dishes are popular in Ramadan (raisins , caramalized onion and Meat ) or Prune and meat with sesame seeds .
Harira is a must , along with 3 or 4 salads (beetroot, Lettuce tomatoes,) Cooked green pepper salad , Calamars frieds in rings , boiled eggs, homemade bread (forget Parisienne , it can wait till after Ramadan ) i like Homemade bread with black sweet onions seeds (forgot their name in arabic )
Maakouda is nice too (potato patties fried ) and other stuff.
Sweets are my favourites especially CHamia with plenty of ground nuts on top . yumm.
Now that Ramadan is over, will you post pictures of all the dishes you have mentioned?
The names are strange to me.
May be Houda can be kind to help her!

When Algeria was a colony of France, a lot of Algerians
were transplanted to France for labour.
Their children are in the twenties & thirties, born & brought up in France.
What is their attitude towards ethnic Algerian food?
I know it is not easy for the tongue to forget one's native food.
There must be a number of eateries in the cite's of Paris,
to cater to the Algerian tongue.
Because, French food is rathar bland.
The three days I was in Paris, how I longed for my spicy food!

Talking about spicy food in Paris, there is an Indian restaurent named,
I think "TAJ MAHAL",somewhere in the center of the city,
near to Chanze Elysse.
The chicken pilaaff was aromatic and tasty.
Strolling on Chanze Elysse,I bought a French fry & Coke
from a Mc'Donald at the center of the street!
