McIntosh apples are great for eating and are wonderful for applesauce and apple butter.
Gala apples have a fruity sweetness and are a perfect apple to eat.
Red Delicious is a sweet apple with a little acidity and is a good apple to eat.
Empire apples are similar to the McIntosh apple and are a tasty treat.
Baking Apples
Granny Smith is a sweet and tangy apple for just about anything.
Grannies make wonderful pies, salads, sauces, and also freeze well. My personal favorite to eat and to cook with.
Cortlands are a long lasting apple and are good for cooking and baking. They are very flavorful for eating as well.
Rome apples are beauties for baking and for sauces because they are mildly sweet.
Apple Tips
Remember to keep lemon juice around when you are baking, cooking, and slicing apples. It helps them from turning brown.
Apples aren't just good to eat; they can keep your potatoes from sprouting. Simply put an apple in your bag of potatoes and your potatoes will be sproutless
