"different languages use various forms of this word" - it was probably 'internationalized' by traders a long time ago.

It is pronounced Chai in most Gulf Countries , India and Pakistan . my husband likes it with carnation milk . his grandmother likes a hint of cardamom in it. I dont , Im a coffee person .

I just shout at my sis when I get home for a mint tea, she gets the leafs from the garden and I simply it sit at the sofa and enjoy it

Chai with lemon & sugar is quite popular in Russia.
Try it. Tastes good. I like it.
