Thank you folks (thank you to you too Amel, your advice is as important), the tofu idea did not fly, I lived 27 years in Algeria and I have never heard of it until I crossed the Atlantic. Nevertheess, I made a meatless Chorba followed by a multiple vegitables coucous (just did not add cabbage: I hate it). It was great, my frinds liked it and my dear wife even recommended to keep making it the same way. It turned out they ate eggs, so the cake issue was resolved. The moral of the story to me is: "Accomodate your friends by being a good host, you might acquire a new taste in life"
