I have been looking for Algerian 'homecooking' books without much success.I am in England have tried at European bookshop,Piccadilly-after ordering several were told months later that they were out of print!
Can anyone recommend any bookshops in Europe where I could order the above,in English or French(takes me a while to translate).
My husband is ALgerian and having sampled his relatives home cooking (not restaurant dishes)would like to give him something of home. I have one small book and tried a few-love the sweets!!

    Dear Tracey,

I am a huge fan of new and used purchasing from amazon.com...Here are some great titles for you to try, and they might have them there used for VERY good prices!!

" The Great Book of Couscous: Classic Cuisines of Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. "

    " The Momo Cookbook. "

" The Book of African Cooking. "

" From the Lans of Figs and Olives. "

" Vegetarian Table: North Africa. "

Let me know if you cannot find these and I will hunt with you.

    Best regards,

    Addison

    Addison,
thanks for reply,I was really looking for book shops rather than ordering over internet-I'm afraid I don't trust that my bank details will be mis-used!! I have one small book from Algeria which is good(but small!) and several written for the English market-very beautiful pictures but I doubt very much if all of the recipies are 'homecooking'!! Most dishes I've tried have turned out OK except for stuffed cauliflower which was a complete and utter disaster!!

    Dear Tracey,

    may I just say,....

    RATS!

But I understand your caution, so I will not press the issue. However, if you were to decide to start internet shopping, I believe that you would feel very confident shopping with Amazon...

Well, now, where do we go from here??? Perhaps you might go onto a search engine ( I am fond of Google ) and look up "Algerian recipes..." There are many Algerain sites, and I am certain that you can find some delicious recipes. I love to cook, and used to have my own catering business, but as for Algerain cooking, I am not too familiar with the intricacies. I can do Turkish and Med, and Middle Eastern, and would be happy to share anything I can from these areas, , but not specifically from Algeria...( Though I do think many of these recipes are very similar in nature. )

Try the search engine and see what you get, and let me know. OK??? We will figure something out!

    Best regards,

    Addison

OH!! And don't forget to ask some of the ladies and gentlemen here for some of their ideas...Maybe they have connections that we don't know about! Certainly they can offer recipes too I would imagine!

    Algerian homecooking

Addison-thanks for opinions on Amazon. Maybe it's just me being sceptical in my old age!!

Are you Algerian or living in ALgeria?

    Dear Tracey,

nope, you are just proceeding with caution! Don't even consider feeling apologetic about it. There are other options for you.

I am from America. I hope that is not too much of a disappointment to you...Oh dear! I am from Baltimore, but am now stranded in the cess pool that is otherwise known as North Carolina...

    Take care, and

    enjoy your weekend,

    Algerian home cooking

    Addison,

Surprised you are from America! It seems to be a rarity for foreigners to be interested in Algeria - just reminded me that a work colleague of my husband thought Algeria was a city in Italy!!(doesn't say much for the state of English education here does it!!).
I will hunt through sites to find recipies-Ramadan will be here soon and for the first time I will be able to eat with my husband 7 days a week.I hope to cook him something nice-he works very hard and I feel is very deserving of the best in life.
Would be interested to know more about your interest if you don't consider it too rude to ask.

    RegardTracey
