The Algerian Red Crescent (ARC) will serve during the holy month of Ramadan up to 860,300 hot meals in some 250 of its restaurants nationwide, in addition to the meals served at home for needy families unable to go to those restaurants.ARC President Mohamed Salah Badouna told APS that “no less than 3,000 volunteers from both genders have been mobilised to serve those meals in restaurants converted for this purpose nationwide throughout the holy month.”

Integrated to ARC’s personnel, Badouna, these volunteers “are keen to carry out a humanitarian duty toward the poor, passers-by and homeless rushing to those restaurants.”

Besides, likewise previous years, the ARC plans to set up its actions and solidarity programme with the distributions of food baskets for the needy, the organisation on the 27th day of Ramadan (night of destiny), circumcisions for up to 9,600 needy kids, as well as visits to patients in hospitals.

In this context, ARC president affirmed that the solidarity programme “will be focused this year on the distribution of 300 Ramadan baskets” to the needy nationwide for the citizen not to lose their dignity.

The basket is made up essentially of “vital commodities like milk, flour, sugar, tomato paste, coffee and oil, in addition to ingredients for cooking Aid El Fitr cakes,” the same source continued.

The distribution of baskets will concern “the needy in a pre-drawn list to guarantee its efficiency and apply the principle of equity among the deprived layers of society.”

As for volunteering, Badouna underscored that the Algerian Red Crescent’s doors are also open to all citizens willing to be volunteers, either by donating money, food or clothes, not to mention those who want to devote part of their time to a humanitarian mission.(
