I'm having difficulty getting hold of orange flower water at the moment. One minute it's in stock, next it's completely sold out
(I think maybe everyone has gotten hold of Amina's recipes where I live)
For the moment, I have some orange extract. Can I use this diluted down as a substitute ?

LOL finally lil_Mem wants to have a go at the sweets recipes

Have you never heard "Hurry while stocks last"?? lol
Anyway, yes I guess you can use the orange extract..the orange flower water is only used for its pungent flavour, and you can substitute it with even orange zest or vanilla extract, depending on your preference/taste.
It just wouldn't be the authentic recipe but it doesn't matter too much, I like vanilla flavour

AH Amina! What would I do without you ?
I'll try both, I've got vanilla and orange extract, so each one will be a surprise (hopefully not a nasty shock
) to the taster. Yes, I'm having a go at making tcharak on Friday. I'm cooking chicken tagine for dinner too.
I've learned a helpful hint (by accident). I coated some chicken with spices and semolina flour the other day, the coating was really crispy after cooking. It was much better than when I use ordinary flour
I was quite proud of myself. It went down well!

Out of curiosity, how do you coat chicken with semolina instead of flour by accident??

Great if it turned out to be good, I didn't know that. You don't like coating with breadcrumbs??
P.S. Is that the meal you said you'd cook for your parents?

I tipped some semolina out into the dish instead of the normal flour, then thought, why not ? (Couldn't be bothered pouring it back into the tin)Originally posted by amina_imen

No the meal for my parents is now this Friday, they had made plans to eat out last week because of my aunt's birthday, (I wonder why?) LOL!!!so I had to put it off until this week.
Seriously, semolina gives a nice crispiness.

Yes I remember you said it was going to be last week...Now I understand why I didn't hear of any family breaking the world record of running to the toilet lol

Well, I shall remember to experiment with semolina and let you know when I do
Oh and good luck for Friday (let me know how it goes)
