    For those who are unable to buy locally, and like me, eat it with every marka possible here’s a quick recipe :

    Oh and harissa as in harre, as in chilli not cakes {http://www.algeria.com/forums/showth...?threadid=7034 : }

    INGREDIENTS :

    1 Cup of fresh red Jalapenos or 1 cup of chili flakes. CHILI FLAKES
    { preferably if fresh red hot peppers}

    ˝ cup paprika

    1 cup of olive oil

    Juice of 4 lemons OR alternatively 4oz of vinegar

    I table spoon of jeera/ Cumin

    OPTIONAL:

    Fresh garlic

    Aromatic herbs such as : basil, oregano, etc

    COOKING INSTRUCTIONS :

    Mix all in a moulinex/ blender and serve cold.

    Smile Salam Houda-K

    I've got some ready made harissa paste, but it's extremely fiery. I need to 'cool' it down a bit. (I'll never forget my son's deafening screams last time I served it my neighbour even asked me what happened )

    Could I mix it with tomato paste and oil to make it a little more child friendly ?

    Salam ~Mem ~

    Ohhhhhhhhhhhh you’re poor son

    I suggest you mix the Harissa with either Olive oil or tomato puree.

    I do find Algerian Harissa a whole heap hotter than Moroccan Harrisa.

    Take care,

    Ma Salama

    Just a question, why do you want your son to eat harissa? I mean the commercial one.

    He's better off without it I would think.

    I must admit, this commercial one I use is a bit suspect.
    (Made by Bart's)

    I will try the home made one.

    I meant that hot (as in spicy) food isn't good for the stomach that's why I wouldn't encourage children to have things like harissa especially if they alert the neighbours too
