Maqrout allouz, I thought this was a Tunisian sweet.
Perhaps, we're not talking about the same thing.
Do they look like cookies coated in icing sugar and made with Blanched Almonds, Sugar, Eggs perhaps ?

Maqrout allouz is as u said with Blanched almonds, it's Algerien sweet, from the center,
Maqrout maqli is a different one, made with semola, dates, butter, cinnamon,
we put it in the end in some honey.

Here you go:

INGREDIENTS:
* 3 bowls semolina (medium as opposed to fine or coarse)
* 1 bowl melted butter
* 4 tablespoons sugar
* 400g mashed boneless dates
* 2 tablespoons orange flower water
* pinch of salt
* 1 teaspoon cinnamon
* Tepid water
* Oil
* 100g honey
PREPARATION:
Work the butter into the semolina, sugar and salt and then add the water slowly so you get a workable dough (not too crumbly but not too sticky). Leave to rest for a few minutes.
Mix in a large bowl mashed dates, cinnamon and orange flower water.
Divide the dough mixture into small balls. Do the same for the dates mixture.
Take each dough ball and roll it out into a rectangle about 1 cm thick and 4 cm wide. Put in the middle some dates mixture that you rolled into a long cigar shape about 1 cm in diameter.
Bring both sides of the dough rectangle together to cover the dates mixtures so that you end up with dates being sandwiched in the middle of the semolina dough. Slightly flatten it with your hand.
Cut into diamonds. Fry in hot oil or bake in the oven until golden. Dip into warm honey.
