    Does anyone out there have an idea about which country today someone with the family name Mourad is likely to come from?

    My guess would be originally Turkey, but you can also find it where the Ottoman empire left a legacy such as in Algeria.

    You can find an earlier discussion about the actual origin of the name here. I don't know about a regional concentration, it's found throughout the Middle East and it's quite common in Egypt I think.
