U.S. facing surge in rightwing extremist and militia groups

March 4, 2010 -- The U.S. is facing a surge in anti-government extremist groups and armed militias driven by deepening hostility on the right to Barack Obama, anger over the economy and the increasing propagation of conspiracy theories by parts of the mass media such as Fox News. The Southern Poverty Law Centre, the country's most prominent civil rights groups focused on hate organisations, said in a report that extremist "Patriot" groups "came roaring back to life" last year as their number jumped nearly 250% to more than 500 such organisations with deepening ties to conservative mainstream politics.

The SPLC report, called Rage on the Right, said the rise in extremist groups is "a cause for grave concern" given their propensity to use violence during their heyday in the 90s, most notably with the Oklahoma City bombing that killed 168 people. It added that the issues driving support for such groups are increasingly populist and that "signs of growing radicalisation are everywhere". "Patriot groups have been fuelled by anger over the changing demographics of the country, the soaring public debt, the troubled economy and an array of initiatives by President Obama that have been branded "socialist" or even "fascist" by his political opponents," the report said.

"Already there are signs of ... violence emanating from the radical right. Since the installation of Barack Obama, right-wing extremists have murdered six law enforcement officers. Racist skinheads and others have been arrested in alleged plots to assassinate the nation's first black president. One man from Brockton, Massachusetts – who told police he had learned on white supremacist websites that a genocide was under way against whites – is charged with murdering two black people and planning to kill as many Jews as possible on the day after Obama's inauguration. Most recently, a rash of individuals with anti-government, survivalist or racist views have been arrested in a series of bomb cases."

The report says the patriot movement has "made significant inroads into the conservative political scene" in part driven by a growing view of the U.S. administration "as part of a plot to impose 'one-world government' on liberty-loving Americans". "The Tea Parties and similar groups that have sprung up in recent months cannot fairly be considered extremist groups, but they are shot through with rich veins of radical ideas, conspiracy theories and racism," the report says. The SPLC notes that the rise comes as part of a deepening disillusionment with government in which just one quarter of Americans think government can be trusted. It said that a recent poll found that the anti-tax Tea Party movement is viewed in more positive terms than the Democratic or Republican parties.

"The signs of growing radicalisation are everywhere. Armed men have come to Obama speeches bearing signs suggesting that the 'tree of liberty' needs to be 'watered' with 'the blood of tyrants'. The Conservative Political Action Conference held this February was co-sponsored by groups like the John Birch Society, which believes President Eisenhower was a communist agent, and Oath Keepers, a patriot outfit formed last year that suggests, in thinly veiled language, that the government has secret plans to declare martial law and intern patriotic Americans in concentration camps," the SPLC said.

The report says that, unlike during the 1990s, the patriot movement's core ideas are more widely propagated and accepted by prominent politicians and some in the mass media, such as the Fox News presenter Glenn Beck. "As the movement has exploded, so has the reach of its ideas, aided and abetted by commentators and politicians in the ostensible mainstream," said the report. "Beck, for instance, reinvigorated a key patriot conspiracy theory – the charge that the federal emergency management agency is secretly running concentration camps – before finally 'debunking' it."

How far such language is now part of the mainstream political discourse was confirmed by Politico today which reported that it had obtained a Republican national committee document detailing plans to raise election funds with an "an aggressive campaign capitalising on 'fear' of President Barack Obama and a promise to "save the country from trending toward socialism". In the presentation, the administration is portrayed as "the Evil Empire", and Obama as the Joker in Batman. Patriot groups and militias are planning a march on Washington next month ostensibly in defence of the right to carry guns.

FBI arrests 9 in extremist group allegedly plotting to kill officers

Washington, March 29, 2010 -- Nine members of an anti-government militia that posted its warrior exercises on the Internet and allegedly plotted to kill police officers were indicted in Detroit Monday on conspiracy and weapons charges. The indictment said that members of Hutaree see law enforcement as the enemy and that they planned to kill a police officer, possibly at a traffic stop, and then attack the funeral procession to kill more officers. U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade said federal agents moved to arrest the leaders of the group over the weekend because they had discussed carrying out an attack in April. "The safety of the public and of the law enforcement community demanded intervention at this time," she said.

The group's website refers to the Hutarees as "Christian warriors." It also posted videos of their military-style exercises. Government officials said they were uncertain of the group's motives and aims. "This is an example of racial and extremist fringe groups which can be found throughout our society," said Andrew Arena, the FBI special agent in charge. "The FBI takes such extremist groups seriously, especially those who would target innocent citizens and the law enforcement officers who protect the citizens of the United States."

The leader of the group was among eight persons taken into custody. He is David Brian Stone, 45, of Clayton, Michigan. Also indicted were his wife, Tina, and two sons, Joshua and David Jr. The FBI said they have not arrested Joshua Stone, who is classified as a fugitive. The federal charges include seditious conspiracy against the government, attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and possessing a firearm during a crime of violence. It was apparent that the FBI had been monitoring the group for some time. The indictment says they had met on February 20 in Lenawee County in eastern Michigan to plan further operations. The group also publicized its own militia activities on its website.

Lundi 29 Mars 2010 -- Neuf membres d'une milice chrétienne antigouvernementale ont été accusés d'avoir comploté pour attaquer la police dans le Michigan, dans le nord des Etats-Unis, selon l'acte d'accusation. Selon l'accusation, le groupe considérait les forces de l'ordre comme l'"infanterie" du gouvernement fédéral et comptait parmi ses ennemis toute personne qui ne partageait pas ses croyances. Les membres de la milice Hutaree arrêtés ce week-end, des hommes et une femme âgés de 19 à 45 ans, sont accusés d'avoir voulu tuer un représentant des forces de l'ordre et lancer ensuite une attaque lors de son enterrement pour obliger la police à réagir. Ils prévoyaient alors de rallier des "points de rendez-vous" pour "mener la guerre contre le gouvernement, en préparant leur défense derrière des fils déclencheurs d'explosifs enterrés et des bombes artisanales actionnées à l'aide de détonateurs. Même les emplacements de combat avaient été prévus". "Hutaree croyait que cela servirait de catalyseur pour un soulèvement de plus grande ampleur contre le gouvernement", selon l'acte d'accusation. Huit membres de Hutaree ont été arrêtés ce week-end dans l'Indiana, l'Ohio et le Michigan (nord). La milice prévoyait de mener une "opération secrète de reconnaissance" en avril, a assuré l'accusation. Le fils du principal responsable de la milice s'est enfui.

ميليشيا "مسيحية"تهدد عرش أوباما

في تأكيد جديد على أن الإرهاب ظاهرة عالمية وليست مرتبطة بديانة معينة ، كشفت وسائل الإعلام الأمريكية في 29 مارس / آذار عن مفاجأة كبيرة من داخل الولايات المتحدة لم يكن يتوقعها أحد والمقصود هنا " ميشيليا كابتن هوتاري ".

والقصة بدأت في أغسطس 2008 عندما ظهرت مجموعة "مسيحية "مسلحة تتكون من تسعة أفراد كانوا يخططون لمقاومة الحكومة الأمريكية بقوة السلاح.

ووضعت تلك المجموعة المتطرفة التي كان يتزعمها شخص يدعى ديفيد بريان ستون خطة تقوم في البداية على محاولة قتل رجال الشرطة واستهداف أكبر عدد ممكن منهم خلال تشييع جنائز زملائهم الذين سقطوا في هجمات سابقة .

ولضمان نجاح الخطة ، لجأ أفراد المجموعة إلى خدعة تقوم على الاتصال برقم الشرطة " 911 " بحجة وجود مشكلة ما وعندما يصل رجال الشرطة يتم قتلهم وبعد ذلك يتم استهداف عشرات آخرين خلال تشييع جنائز زملائهم .

ويبدو أن الشرطة الأمريكية نجحت في إحباط المخطط قبل أن يسقط ضحايا ، حيث وجهت هيئة محلفين في مدينة ديترويت في 29 مارس /اذار تهما بالتآمر والتحريض ومحاولة استخدام أسلحة الدمار الشامل وتعليم استخدام المواد المتفجرة وحيازة الأسلحة النارية لأفراد المجموعة "المسيحية" المتطرفة وهم ستة من بين المتهمين هم من سكان ولاية متشيجان واثنان من أوهايو وآخر من ولاية إنديانا .

وجاء في لائحة الاتهام أن المجموعة المسلحة التي تطلق على نفسها "هوتاري" خططت لتنفيذ معارضة مسلحة لحكومة الولايات المتحدة التي تصفها بحكومة "المسيح الدجال ".

والمتهمون هم ديفيد بريان ستون الذي يلقب بـ "كابتن هوتاري" ويبلغ من العمر "45 عاما " وزوجته تينا ستون "44 عاما وابنه جوشوا ماثيو ستون "21 عاما "وابنه الآخر ديفيد بريان ستون جي آر"19 عاماوجوشوا كلوف "28 عاما "ومايكل ميكس "40 عاما "وتوماس بياتك "46 عاماوكريستوفر سيكلز "27 عاما"وجيكوب وارد "33 عاما".

وتحتجز السلطات الأمريكية حاليا ثمانية من أفراد المجموعة بينما بقي التاسع وهو جوشوا ستون فارا من العدالة .

ورغم أن البعض قد يعتبر ما سبق أمرا داخليا أمريكيا ، إلا أنه على العكس له أبعاد عالمية ، فواشنطن قامت باحتلال أفغانستان والعراق بحجة محاربة ما تسميه بالتطرف الإسلامي ، كما أنه منذ أحداث 11 سبتمبر ، دأب الغرب على وصف الإسلام بـ "الإرهاب" وتصاعدت موجة العنصرية ضد العرب والمسلمين .

والآن وبعد 9 سنوات من هجمات سبتمبر يتأكد للعالم أجمع أن احتلال أفغانستان والعراق لم يوفر الأمن لأمريكا ، بل إن التطرف بات يتغلغل داخل القوة العظمى في العالم ، فهل يعني ذلك حشد الجيوش لغزوها مثلما فعلت مع الآخرين وبحجة مواجهة التطرف أيضا ؟.

وهناك من يربط بين "ميليشيا هوتاري " والمسئول الفعلي عن أحداث 11 سبتمبر ، حيث ظهرت تصريحات مؤخرا ترجح أن تلك الهجمات صناعة أمريكية صهيونية مائة بالمائة وتعكس أجندة اليمين المتطرف في الولايات المتحدة .

ففي 6 سبتمبر 2009 ، وقبل أيام من إحياء الذكرى الثامنة للهجمات ، فجر أحد مستشاري أوباما مفاجأة من العيار الثقيل اتهم خلالها إدارة بوش السابقة بالتورط في تلك الهجمات ، الأمر الذي جلب له عاصفة من انتقادات الجمهوريين قدم على إثرها استقالته.

وكان فان جونز المستشار الخاص بشأن الوظائف الخضراء في مجلس الجودة البيئية في البيت الأبيض وقع عريضة تشير إلى تورط إدارة بوش بهجمات 2001 في نيويورك وواشنطن وأكد أنها قامت عن قصد بالسماح بحصول هجمات سبتمبر ، داعيا إلى فتح تحقيق رسمي في هذا الأمر، وبعد ذلك ظهر جونز في شريط مصور وهو يستخدم تعبيراً فجاً لوصف الجمهوريين .

وبعد أن تصاعدت انتقادات الجمهوريين للتصريحات السابقة ، قدم استقالته وبررها برغبته في تفادي تشتيت جهود إدارة أوباما لإجازة إصلاح نظام الرعاية الصحية وقانون التغير المناخي.

والمثير للانتباه أن هذه لم تكن المرة الأولى التي يتردد فيها أن الهجمات هى صناعة صهيونية مائة بالمائة بعلم وموافقة المحافظين الجدد ، ففي تصريحات أدلى بها لصحيفة "راديكال" التركية ، أكد ماهر كايناك أحد أبرز رجال المخابرات التركية أنه لايوجد تنظيم اسمه تنظيم القاعدة ، مشيرا إلى أن كافة الهجمات المنسوبة للقاعدة هى عمليات تقوم بها وكالة الاستخبارات المركزية الأمريكية وتمت جميعها بعلم الرئيس الأمريكي السابق جورج بوش.

وردا على سؤال ، ماذا تستفيد المخابرات الأمريكية من مخطط لضرب أبراجها وقتل مواطنيها؟ أجاب كايناك قائلا :"إن بوش الذي يتزعم اليمين المتصهين وخاض الحروب في الشرق الأوسط لخدمة إسرائيل كان من أهم أولوياته القضاء على رأس المال الإسلامي لتحقيق أهداف المحافظين الجدد والصهيونية العالمية في السيطرة على ثروات العالم العربي والإسلامي" .

وتساءل في هذا الصدد " هل من المنطق أن أجهزة المخابرات الأمريكية والمخابرات الروسية والغربية القوية لاتستطيع القضاء على تنظيم القاعدة ويزعمون أنه يخطط لعملياته من داخل مغارة صغيرة في مكان مجهول؟".

وسواء تأكدت صحة التصريحات السابقة أم لا ، فإن الحقيقة التي لاجدال فيها أن هناك جماعات في الولايات المتحدة التي تقوم على تفوق الجنس الأبيض والولاء لإسرائيل مازالت غير مستعدة لقبول رئيس أسود على رأس السلطة ، كما أنها تمارس التطرف في أبشع صوره.

تهديد عالمي

وما يدعم ما سبق أن الجماعات الأمريكية البيضاء العنصرية التي تعارض وصول أي عرق آخر إلى الحكم نفذت في السابق عدة محاولات لاغتيال أوباما ، هذا بالإضافة إلى أن ظهور "ميليشيا هوتاري " تزامن مع حملة انتخابات الرئاسة الأمريكية التي فاز بها .

ولعل إعلان جهاز أمن الرئيس الأمريكي باراك أوباما في 8 يونيو 2009 عن اعتقال رجل أبيض في ولاية نيفادا هدد علناً بقتل أوباما يؤكد حجم الخطر الذي بات يتهدد أمريكا من الداخل وينعكس بشكل أو بآخر في سياستها الخارجية وخاصة ضد العرب والمسلمين .

وكان الناطق باسم الجهاز مالكولم وايلي أعلن أن الرجل ويدعى دانييل جيمس موراي اعتقل في مرآب للسيارات تابع لأحد الفنادق في نيفادا ، موضحا أنه سحب مؤخراً 85 ألف دولار من مصرف في يوتاه وأخبر موظف البنك أنه في مهمة لقتل أوباما ، قائلا :" مع هذه الفوضى التي تحدث في عهد أوباما في المصارف والاقتصاد ، أنا واثق أن المواطنين إذا فقدوا أموالهم ، فسنرى أنهم سينتفضوا وربما نشهد حوادث قتل واغتيال".

الخلاصة أن هناك تنظيمات مسلحة بالغة الخطورة في الولايات المتحدة تهدد حياة أوباما بصفة خاصة والأمن العالمي بصفة عامة .

Christian militia members held for plot to kill policeman and bomb funeral

March 30, 2010 -- Nine members of a rightwing Christian militia in the U.S. were charged yesterday with plotting to murder a policeman and then bomb his funeral in an attempt to provoke an anti-government uprising. Eight of the Michigan-based group, which includes one woman, were arrested at the weekend in raids in three states, amid warnings from civil rights groups of a surge in the number of extremist militias and "patriot" organisations that see the government as the enemy. A ninth person remained at large as charges of sedition and the planned use of weapons of mass destruction were issued. The members of the group, called Hutaree, allegedly planned to kill the policeman and plant improvised bombs – modelled on those used by insurgents in Iraq – along the route of his funeral, to murder other officers and mourners. Hutaree, which the group says means Christian warrior, is described by prosecutors as advocating attacks on law enforcement agencies as the "foot soldiers" of the federal government. "This is an example of radical and extremist fringe groups which can be found throughout our society," said Andrew Arena, the FBI agent in charge of the investigation in Michigan. "The FBI takes such extremist groups seriously."

Hutaree describes its doctrine as based on the testimony of Jesus and warns of a looming battle with the antichrist. "The Hutaree will one day see its enemy and meet him on the battlefield, if so God wills it," the group says in its literature. Among the forums on the group's website is one dealing with weapons, and another called the "evil Jew forum". According to prosecutors, the accused Hutaree members spent 18 months planning the killings. After attacking the funeral, militia members planned to retreat to fortified sites and begin a war against the government. The prosecution says the attacks were intended to "intimidate and demoralise law enforcement". "It is believed by the Hutaree that this engagement would then serve as a catalyst for a more widespread uprising against the government," the indictment said. Prosecutors say the accused conspirators were led by David Stone, 45, known as Captain Hutaree. He is alleged to have used the internet to find information on improvised bombs in Iraq and to have told his son to obtain the materials. The prosecution also alleges that Stone taught Hutaree members to make bombs. Stone's former wife Donna was among those arrested. One of his sons, Joshua, is the ninth person being sought by police.
