Japan has 18 NPPs (Nuclear Power Plants) A country which does not other sources of energy such as Hydel, Coal, Crude Oil has to depend on NPPs to feed its voracious demand for Electric Energy from Steel Mills, Ship Building, Electronics and utility.

While the NPPs are desugned to withstand the effects of an EQ, they are not protected against the hydraulic forces of a tsunami caused by an under sea EQ.
