    ...someone searching for their father....

    Salutations !!!

I joined this interesting site, hoping to learn more about my culture and how to contact my family who lives in northern Algeria.I was born in France but have lived most of my life in the United States. The time that I have spent living here, seems all just to be but a dream.

If anybody knows how I would be able contact a person in Algeria or find a directory, post office, city office, etc. any help would be appricated, thanks !.

salam, mar7aba wa bienvenue (ou azul!)

Welcome to Algeria.com, I hope that you will enjoy your time here and that you will have good outcomes in your efforts to reconnect with your roots and family.

You can make a start with your searching by looking at the White Pages and if you know of a business in the area you are interested in you can try the Yellow Pages.

    Good luck!

Ummmm... you could (if you know the exact place in Algiers) fax a letter to the local post office there, they'll be able to track him down and have him give you a buzz when you leave phone number
Be clear of the name and surname of the person you are looking for his age (birth date) and all your details.. My prayers go out to you and your family
p.s make sure the letter is in French or Arabic
    w/salam
    In the Qur'an, Allah says:

"When My servants ask about Me, I am indeed close to them. I listen to the prayer of every supplicant, when he calls on Me.
Let them also, with a will, listen to My call, and believe in Me, so that they may walk in the right way" (Qur'an 2:186).

Wow... you are all so helpful, thank you so much. Our Family name is Merad. The closest name to resemble mine is a cornish surname of "Murad" which means "by the sea". I tried to research the name but now I just know alot about Kad Merad ...ahhahhhahah.

I believe the last address(which is from 2005) was in Hussein Dey, Alger.

I do not speak (or write) in French or Arabic, but have good friends that do. Is Tamazight spoken a lot there ? I was interested in learning Arabic, even though I would not have a lot of people to practice with but where would a good place to start be ...?
