Eid Mubarak to you and your family Khoya. Kul Eid wa intom bi Khair insha Allah.

As for defending Algerian sisters, their my sisters to, in actual fact there is only one family ~ the ummah, regardless of nationality.

I have to disagree with you Khoya, when you said :

what other people wear should not be ur problem; if you don't like it, just look away!

We should really neither judge nor ignore {of course this depends on the situation}. For example, I saw a muhtajiba and her hair was showing from the back, she had no idea, so I approached her and told her. No one likes being judged by others and no one likes being humiliated in front of others either.

I admit I find it difficult to approach sisters when they show their arms and cover their heads.

I suppose to conclude in this posting and my previous posting on this thread is for the sisters is to be proud of your culture and the religion of your ancestors.

    Take care Khoya

    Salam

I suspect that I am a bit older than you all.. So with your indulgence I will take the freedom to cast some feelings on Algerian social behaviour having lived through the passion of youth and the the realities of life.

The behaviour of Algerian men and women is dictated by the social and cultural pressures that play in the context where they live. Society expects from individuals certain attitudes which often collide with cultural norms engrained in our subconscious. It is therefore tempting for a person living in a more permissive society to challenge its own cultural boundaries, the effects of which would seem normal in the host culture but could be completely devious in the society of origin.

Men in Algeria and in the Arab world in general suffer no serious consequences for their social behaviour, which is not the case for women who are exposed to judgement (often by men) and laws (unwritten and unwritten) severe enough for them to consider seriously the effects of their social attitudes.

We live in changing times and change is important, without it we cannot improve as a group. However we have to contemplate this change in light of the input that culture as a driver for change can bring in defining us and our role in an emerging global society. Culture defines the type of solidarities we can expect from each other and how we can move as together as a group. We should never this lightly.

Women in the west have always played a push role and men a pull, but it is men who have the most challenging task. Men have the social lattitude to "break" cultural tabous with no serious consequences, this is not the case for women. It is, therefore, the responsibility of men to see that their attitude and behaviour are unequivocally balanced, honest and aligned with the cultural foundation of the group (Algerian, Arab, Amazigh, Moslem, etc.). failing which we will all become subjects or taxpayers in an environment that is unforgiving for the weak, and the individual.

But culture is not static either and some intelligent consensus has to be reached between men and women to ensure that each contributes to enriching positively our wonderful culture, its diversity and to ensure that we live the present as full participant in the endeavour of forging our own future.

    Salam

I don't really know why Algerian girls pretend as if they are so holy; if you try to talk to them on them they just play you off and act as if you are not speaking to them. What type of life is this while as if they go out of their country like in Paris their behavior change totally. Let me tell you Algerian girls please feel free to talk to us even in the streets you do not know where your luck comes from. don't tie your heads and pretend like the Iraqis or the most holy Ajahs of Saudi.

    Algerian women!

Why do yo care about them? they are not your sisters. I dont know any algerian girl neither do I want to know any .
I think they are not nice or anything esp the ones in "ghorba".
Yes, I know Algerian women hide behind religion with algerian men, and are extremely opened with english...or other forigners.
I guess it is just the way it is: Algerian men dont like algerian women and the inverse is true.
