According to a recently published article by the NewYork times, the recently launched (June 2006) Genentech drug approved for treatment of opthalmic (eye) problems and which has already achieved $380million sales for the last year, has unexpected side effects while being tested on further patients for phase 4 clinical trials (term used for post marketing drugs). The side effect included increasing the risk of strokes (for 2400 patients followed so far) due to its high disage (o.5mg per injection for the marketed version).
This has already affected the product's shares by 1.02%.
