Online symptoms searches can be useful. They can also give you acute misinformation.

Cyberfamilias: Visits to Doctors Who Are Not in, Ever

MY children have in recent weeks decided that they have leprosy, irritable bowel syndrome and Lyme disease.

“I’m contagious,” my 9-year-old said, looking up from the laptop on which she had just typed her symptoms one morning last week. “I shouldn’t go to school with strip throat.”

“It’s strep throat,” I said, not looking up from my breakfast. “And you don’t have it. So go get dressed.” ...

That's really funny, I wouldn't search the internet in hopes to find out what's 'my condition'... that's actually dangerous- or it'll get you paranoid and freaked out when there might not be anything wrong in the first place.

the internet is helpful when accumulating informatin about a condition that someone already has. They could see what to avoid, what to do etc.


you need directions before you decide to take just any avenue and get lost on the way.

Google Health Announced for 2008

Google's Marissa Mayer, manager of the Google Health product team, said at the Web 2.0 Summit:

If you look at health care, there's already a huge user need, people are already using Google more than any other tool on the Web to find health information ... And the health care industry generates a huge amount of information every year. It's a natural core competency fo us, to understand how to organize all that data. ...

Google Health will officially appear in early 2008.

oh don't you start now- that was a perfectly justifiable attempt to see what my symptoms would tie with what type of medical condition i may have caught.
