Did the Algerians want a 'radical' Islamic party? This same bunch is killing the Algerians? So I am having a hard time seeing why anyone would want this particular bunch to rule Algeria...my question is though they wanted an Islamic State run by Islamic people was it this radical bunch who is murdering them the one they really wanted and why? Below is an excerpt from Sky News/UK. What was their rhetoric and platform? Did they show any hint that this is the kind of thing Algeria could expect once they were voted in? As they are acting now is the way they would have ruled. Or is this the reaction of the people because they didn't get the party voted in or is this caused by the party and the supporters, the party seems to be the one who is partly blamed for this -so I am a tad confused and know the news can many times be unreliable...I prefer to hear an Algerian explanation rather than the news stories.
Suspected Islamic rebels have killed seven civilians in two raids overnight in western Algeria, the official Algerian news agency APS reported on Friday.
The report, quoting government sources, said two young girls were also kidnapped. The government has accused the rebels of kidnapping hundreds of girls in the past four years for use as sex slaves.
One rebel group was believed to be behind the killings, which took place in Chelf province, 100 miles west of Algiers, and in the Ain Defla area, 37 miles away.
Racked by violence
The deaths brought to more than 1,000 the number of Algerians killed in rebel raids and military operations against them since the beginning of the year.
Algeria has been racked by violence since early 1992 when the authorities cancelled a parliamentary election that radical Islamists were poised to win.
The government says more than 100,000 people have been killed since then, although independent sources put the number of deaths at up to 150,000.

No Shark;
They don't nor do they want the current government. However both government and a group of terrorists influenced and sponsored by similar groups as the Ben Ladden one are terrorizing the population. Power by force. It's unfortunate, but 2 minorities are more popular than the 80% of the population, because it causes "News Worthy Events" -
go onto http://www.google.com and search for the word AMAZIGH, Kabyle and find out more about these people and their true history and identity. You will have your eyes opened. The western media does not have interest in the people's struggle because the current dictator government provides well in oil and natural gaz. Saddam Hossein is not as dangerous as the current government in ALgeria controlled by 5 generals, who with the islamists killed "hold on to your seat" 120, 000 people in the last 12 years. Talking about dictatorship, it less than 1000 miles from Ireland my friend !

Thankyou
for explaining all this to me and yes I will do some reading, thank you once again for your help. Aye yes, you are right 1000 miles is even less when you consider the sayings that our ancestors were related, I read we Celts are related to the Berber a ways back, so the 1000 miles is closer than we think if the scientists are right - our ranges were extremely far and 1000 miles was a short ways for some of our tribes, so in more ways than one it appalls me that strangers make the decisions and one's countrymen kill one off, charity begins at home they say, for many home is a dangerous place. God protect you and keep you.

Algeria never Afganistan, Irak, or such...
Your call to rally against the regime is well taken. However, I must clarify that the danger is in the CHARIA and the DHIHAD. The places and peoples you mention face exactly the same problem as we do, except that they deal with HONEST regimes, while the Algerian one is not.
Our situation requires an immediate attention because we deal with people of dangerous value system steming from a totally backwards theology. Central and fondamental mistake is "the denial of a direct link between man and god, which you find in Judaism and Christianity as treated by the would be Romano-Algerian (Augustine) - "Good and bad" and "the will" are his themes.
Not holding Human life as Divine, disrespect of others'languages and cultures, along with Greed about "BOOTY" is the problem with Islam - The rest is a copy of old-testament to the Arabs. Again search readings about the djihad and you will find echo to this, then you will understan. But,
Until every North African identifies Self with African and imposes it to the rest of the world, i.e. NEGATE the inclusion of N. Africa in the Middle-east, Arab, and Muslim world things, the problem will remain ! - All it takes is a minimum of honesty to self(ethics), but that requires a different value-system, thus disconnect from Islam and Arab language and things will fall into place ! - You can do it in Arabic, posit variables and apply logic and you will reach these conclusions ! Without Islam, Arabic would have become what English is for the world now. The beauty and strengths of that language are doomed by the religion which stopped research and creativity both of which require LIBERTY. I invite any ALgerian or North African who claims to be an Arab or Muslim to honestly consider these matters and dare have the courage to face up to their denial.
Cheers.
