November 12, 2007 -- The Algerian cultural week in Sharjah opened on Sunday to folklore dances and musical performances.

The week-long event held at Qanat Al Qasba, includes many activities aimed at introducing Algerian culture to the UAE.

The festivities were opened by Shaikh Abdullah bin Salim Al Qasimi, Chief of Sharjah Emiri Court in the presence of Algerian Minister of Culture Khalida al Toumi.

Included are plastic art exhibitions and various booths and exhibitions for paintings, books, jewellery, handicrafts and ceramics.

Shaikh Abdullah told reporters: ''The event provides an excellent opportunity for further strengthening cultural interaction between the two brotherly countries.”

The Algerian minister praised Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah for his support and care for culture and heritage.

She confirmed that the event seeks to boost bonds of fraternity and friendship between the people of the UAE and Algeria.
