Arab name...really? This name is very spreaded in Bosna (where live muslims, but not arab muslim..) Anyway I love this name and if I'd have a daughter, she will be Azra.

Sorr I have to disagree with you Phyl. The z in the Azra would be a "Thaa"
if it's the letter that as arabs of middle east used to pronounce it like a "z". They never turn the letter
into "z".. and needless to explain that arabic speaker of north africa don't have this variations.
I have no clue about what the name "Azra" could come fomr though.

The name is of arabic origin ya Lazzhar, although I've never heard of it in Algeria...
It's more used in Afghanistan, Kazakhestan, Azerabidjan, Turkey and as said by Anka in Bosnia. The Z comes from urdu rather than from a variant of middle eastern arabic...
I bet the Bosnian took it from the turks

yes, they took it from turks.
i've never understand how muslims in bosna pray.. and understand quran because they don't speak arab language (they speak pure slovan language)

We interchange 'z' and 'dh' in Iraq and it is common enough in the rest of the Middle East. So you get reports out of Baghdad about incidents in Azamiyah and Adhamiyah or Kazimiyah and Kadhimiyah and some journalists treat them as four districts instead of two. Even mystery man Az-Zarqawi is referred to as Ad-Dharqawi in some reports.
