Question Español en Argelia.

Gracias.

Hi everybody! I was wondering if anyone knows about the use of the spanish languange in modern Algeria, or even historically. I remember that when I went to concert that Rachid Taha offered in Mexico City a few years ago he told the audience he recalled his grandmother(s) spoke spanish. I know Oran was a spanish city for a while a long time ago and that received a lot of spanish refugees many years after that and I wanted to know how the language influenced the region. Thanks.

There are still many contacts between Oran and Spain, so Spanish is not so strange to the people there. If you want to look at history in more detail try researching Titauni

No offence, but I don't like the Spanish language so much, I find it as harsh as North African Arabic! I find it quite hard to learn and although I did learn some while in Spain, I grew quickly bored of it. any advice?

    PS: I prefer Italian...

I guess u gotta like and be fascinated by a language if u want to learn it. Otherwise u need to find a good reason to do so, not just learning a new language...
I must say I like all languages and am keen to learn all of them, well except of German, Dutch and the like

Well, I gotta agree with Mnarvi-DZ. If you don't really like the language it's going to be really hard for you to learn it. For example, I absolutely love Arabic, and it's been really easy to me to learn some of it because of that, on the other hand I have a friend that is a muslim too and too loves the Middle East, but she loves Turkish and it's been hard for her whenever I try to teach her some Arabic it's really hard for her to get it.
