Hello can anybody recommend me some decent english-algerian books/audio tapes? I left the country when i was 5 so know very little but would love to learn as french was hardly spoken when i visited! Btw i can speak french but not well enough to translate it into arabic-i've tried learning that way it just drove me nuts!
xx

Hi !
I think you won't find any Algerian dialect books as such so what I suggest is Go for a "one 2 one" class with someone who is willing to teach you Algerian.
This way, you could start off you first little dictionary
I think it's better because that person will be able to correct you on your accent & pronounciation.
I would have gladly volunteered but I don't think I'm a good teacher in terms of patience
All the best!

hey, really useful! Thanx BB!
It seems as if one fails to conceive
The meaning my name strives to achieve
To a biological form you cannot relate-
Because a reproductive cell is a gamete not gamate!
It means to unite, -to become consolidated
So without me in a.com, is there hope we'd be amalgamated?

The algerian language is quite hard to learn, i am just starting out! I am finding it slightly easier as my second language is Polish so the pronounciation is a little easier.
Some of the threads here seem quite helpful, but i need an algerian to pronounce the words for me first to hear exactly how it should sound.
I am learning some from my husband and i pick up bits when i hear him speaking to friends/family.
Just wish there was an easier way, unfortunately algerian is such a varied language, that there are no courses for it!!!
Would so love to be able to say a little more to my mother-in-law, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws when we go to visit them later in the year!!!

you know - whatever Algerian you pick up here, repeat it to your husband and he'll correct you (pronounciation wise). Then once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to surprise him with new vocab words
