Hi Andy Lee. It sounds like you're going to wait until you get there before you start learning French. Not a very good idea. Start learning French, if that's what you want to do, right away. Check websites for local private tutors, or place a free advert in Gumtree or similar. Once you've found an enthusiastic tutor, give him/her a precise 'scheme of work', ie a list of skills & topics you want to cover. Focus 90% on speaking and listening skills. That's my advice to you.

Having said that, it might also be worth learning a few phrases in Algerian dialect, to be determined when you know exactly where you're going [could be Berber or Arabic]., eg " Assalamu 3aleikum" etc. Good luck.

Thank you very much for your good advice, actually I'm learning french language beginer's course (niveau debutant ??) now, but I think when I start staying there in Algeria next year I might need a tutor for further study.
Is "Gumtree" a web site name? I guess people post personal ads and exchange/sell/buy things there
