    Smile

I've got my books at last It's gonna be interesting learning this as the books I have got contain NO English (My first language)as there are presently no books on Algerian> English. They are French>Algerian Arabic.
My grasp of reading French is pretty good (my grammar is appalling though), I've skimmed through and don't think I'll have a problem as I speak some Arabic too, already.

Anyhow, what I am suggesting though, is as I learn, maybe I could post it on this thread, with translations in English and French, so non Algerians could learn also ?
These books are 'Standardised Algerian Arabic' so it doesn't account for the regional differences, (it states about these in the books too)
It would be valuable if Algerians could post their input on here as well, as books lack the 'Colloquial' characteristics used by natives.
Don't worry, we won't use this language to 'spy' on you guys LOL!

Anyhow, what do you think ? I'll keep it all on this one thread

    ~ Lil Mem~

I think it’s a great idea to have an online thread for Algerian darija in this forum Why no~ one thought about this before, I don’t know

I think if you could post words, then increase to useful phrases/ sentences etc, would be beneficial, just means you’ll be more active on the forums

    Choukrane, wa salam

    Talking Good point Houda

    Saha Houda,

I think your idea is great.

I'm gonna start with the first lesson, repeat after me:

Wahed (one), Zouj (two), Tlata (three)
Khobz (bread), Hlib (milk), chikoulat (chocolate)
N'habek bezef (I love you so much), Chebba (gorgeous)
Houkouma (police, army or anything to do with government)
Dez maahoum (whatever), degage (go away)...

    I'll be back for more.

Lil_Mem, how good is your Algerian? Can you understand a bit? Or do you have to start from scratch?

Apart from a few words, I'm starting from scratch.
