Hi Everyone,
My husband and I are planning to move together permanently in Algiers next year. I am an English women who lived in Europe for most of her life. What I would like to know is what is it like living as an expat in Algiers? Is there a big community there? How can I make friends there? I do not plan to work there but help my husband with his business, although I may be able to continue as a consultant if he guarantees me an internet connection! We do not have children (for many reasons) so I will not be able to make friends through the school network. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, no matter how brutal. I do not want to make a mistake and give up a very good career. I speak dutch, spanish and german but no french although I am trying to learn (I am 32 so learning languages on top of a busy life is a little challenging). Thank you for reading.

before I explode:
1 woman
multiple women. (i am very unforgiving towards that typo)
My partner always says alot of the younger generation (i would presume including other 32 year olds) speak English in Algiers, and you could get in touch with hopeland Algeria, not for a job or anything but I know they are friendly and speak English, I think one woman is a member on this so maybe you could ask her.

Hi guys,
I am a 36 year old British lady living and working in Algiers for the past year and a bit with no children. I gave up my home, my career and obviously my family and friends to move here and can therefore appreciate the dilemma you are faced with. I would be more than happy to discuss this further but as I rarely get on this forum, it would be better for you to e-mail me directly.
Felicity, I assume I have met your husband here at Hopeland and that it is me you are referring to, if so, thank you for the compliment.
Maktub, I hope to hear from you soon.
Best wishes
