The Reichstag building in Berlin was constructed to house the Reichstag, the first parliament of the German Empire.




It was opened in 1894 and housed the Reichstag until 1933, when it was severely damaged in a fire supposedly set by a Dutch communist, Marinus van der Lubbe,[1] who was later beheaded for the crime, although it was probably the Nazi Party who committed the crime in an attempt to flush out Communism. That verdict has been a subject of controversy over the years. The National Socialist Party used this event as casus belli to begin a purge of "traitors" in Berlin and to ban the KPD, the German Communist Party.

The Reichstag building again became the seat of the German parliament in 1999 after a reconstruction led by internationally renowned architect Norman Foster.





Today's parliament of Germany is called the Bundestag. The Reichstag as a parliament dates back to the Holy Roman Empire and ceased to act as a true parliament in the years of the Nazi regime (1933–1945). In today's usage, the German term Reichstag or Reichstagsgebäude (Reichstag building) refers to the building, while the term Bundestag refers to the institution.

Des ex-étudiants de l’EPAU se réunissent à Montréal

Lundi 19 Mai 2008 -- Un groupe d’ex-étudiants de l’Ecole polytechnique d’architecture et d’urbanisme d’Alger (EPAU) a « attrapé cette semaine l’histoire par sa queue ». C’est grâce au forum d’un site dédié aux étudiants de l’EPAU (Charrette-Ville) que l’idée d’organiser un souper avec les ex-« épautistes » résidant au Canada a germé. Radia qui a lançé l’initiative, en s’inspirant d’une rencontre similaire organisée à Paris, il y a quelques mois, était loin de se douter que celle-ci allait connaître un tel succès. Relayée très vite par ses compatriotes qui ont saisi l’idée au vol et après deux mois de préparation, Salim, Krim, Radia, Chafik, Amirouche, Mourad et autres (au total 20) se sont donc donné rendez-vous, un vendredi après-midi, au restaurant Casa Corfu pour un dîner. L’occasion était aussi celle de s’échanger les expériences et les parcours de chacun en Amérique du Nord. C’est ainsi que ceux qui ont pu se frayer un chemin dans un marché de travail québécois, se sont fait un plaisir de montrer la clé de sésame à leurs camarades. La rencontre a permis de replonger aussi les présents dans le passé. Une initiative fort louable.
