SUSTAINABLE STYLE: Boot Up for Winter 2008





There is perhaps no better wardrobe investment for Winter 2008, than a super stylish pair
of eco chic boots. Shoes and accessories should carry over from year-to-year, so it
really pays to do your homework when selecting covet-able footwear that will keep you
looking fab for more than just one season.





We have picked out a few of this season’s
cutest vegan and ethical fashion finds so that you can easily ‘boot up’ in sustainable style
while also keeping the wintry slush at bay.




Bourgeois Boheme’s ‘Love Goddess Collection’ is one of the hottest new lines available on
the ethical fashion scene. Alicia Lai, founder and Managing Director of Bourgeois Boheme
was recently announced as one of the ‘Future 100 Young Entrepreneurs of the Year’
during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2008. Her Venus Brown Riding Boot has been
spotted on celebrities like outspoken vegan, Natalie Portman, and understandably so, as
this patent, leather-free boot is sleek enough to wear around all day on a film set and
then out on the town after hours. Totally classic in its riding boot cut, the Venus has a 1.5
inch heel which translates to no-fuss comfort and smart wearability.






We think that Bourgeois Boheme’s Isis 3.5 inch ankle boot (pictured at top) is pretty
sustainably sassy as well, and the 80’s retro attitude is perfect for green urban chic
dressing. Pair it with bamboo leggings or patterned knit tights, and you have super cute
look for your latest vintage ensemble.

The collaboration with Melissa expands Zaha Hadid’s portfolio to the field of fashion,
creating an exciting opportunity to express spatial ideas in a different scale and through
different media. For the fi rst time Melissa is collaborating with an architect opening a new
research topic, diversifying its repertoire.





The design engages with the fluid organic contours of the body. The shoes asymmetric
quality conveys an inherent sense of move-ment to the design, evoking continuous
transformation. The concept addresses the perception of wearing the shoe in motion
rather than a static display on a shopping window.


The shoes emerge from the ground and climb up the foot and leg with a soft elegant
movement. The plastic organic quality of the choreography adheres to the skin. There is
an implicit sense of lightness that blurs the boundary between body and object.

designed in collaboration with Brazilian shoemaker Melissa.
