What YOU can do for Gaza

    Salams All!

In these times sometimes you might feel helpless and have no idea what to do... well you can do something - spread this to everyone you know (and you're not limited to what's listed here).

    ***************************

    1. Make Du3a (a prayer) at least 5 minutes daily

Oh Allah, improve the state of the Ummah of Muhammad (pbuh); Oh Allah, grant ease to the Ummah of Muhammad (pbuh); Oh Allah, have mercy on the Ummah of Muhammad (pbuh).

Oh Allah ease the pain and suffering of the people of Gaza; Oh Allah, grant them steadfastness and patience; Oh Allah, make their hearts firm and strong; Oh Allah, save the people of Gaza.

    2. Pray Tahajjud (night prayers)

"Allah will never change the condition of a people until they change that which is within themselves." (The Holy Quran 13:11)

In order for any of our actions to be effective, they must be blessed by and accepted by Allah. We can only acheive this by drawing nearer to Him through acts of worship and abstaining from prohibited acts.

    - Make sure to sleep and wake up between Isha and Fajr prayers
    - Make your wudu, clear your mind and prepare yourself for your prayer.
    - Make your intention to preform 2 rak'ahs of Tahajjud prayer
    - During your sujud (prostrations), recite a du3a for those suffering in Gaza
    - Can be repeated up to 8 rak'ahs (4 sets of 2 rak'ahs)

    3. Fast Monday and/or Thursday

Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet (pbuh) would fast Mondays and Thursdays. When he was asked about this, he said, "The deeds of people are presented to Allah (swt) on every Monday and Thursday. Allah (swt) forgives every Muslim except for those who are deserting each other."

    4. Talk to a neighbor and/or co-worker

Educate your co-workers, friends, and neighbors about the situation in Gaza; let them know why this is important to you. Often times, people trust information from a source they know and are more liekyly to share this information on with others.

For talking points go here, or check out the Palestine thread.

    5. Attend a demonstration

For protest dates/time/locations, go here (sorry, link is for protests in the US) or Google "upcoming gaza protest locations in ________" and type where you live.

You can also organize a protest by contacting local officials and setting up a location.

    6. Contact elected officials:

    For the US:

    Barack Obama: (202) 540-3000
    Barbara Boxer: (202) 224-3535
    Dianne Feinstein: (202) 224-3841

    Locate your US representative here

Also, go to WriteToThem to contact your councilors, MP, MEPs, MSPs, or Northern Ireland, Welsh and London AMs

    7. Write a letter to the editor of:

    New York Times - leters@nytimes.com
    Los Angeles Times - letters@latimes.com
    Washington Post - letters@washpost.com
    Chicago Tribune - ctc-tribletter@tribune.com
    Orange County Register - letters@ocregister.com
    Time Magazine - letters@time.com
    Newsweek Magazine - letters@newsweek.com

There are many more newspapers and magazines to write to, just go to their websites and look up the contact information.

    8. Sign an online petition

    Avaaz
    CAIR
    IAC

Keep your eyes open for more.

    9. Donate to relief organizations

    Islamic Relief
    LIFE for Relief & Development
    KinderUSA

Think of creative ways to raise money with your community.
