Hi All!
Here is a new thread ...
waiting to be started. Let's see where it is going to take us!
The title is self-explanatory. It is a TRUE / FALSE quiz for those who enjoy a bit of fun while maybe gaining some knowledge.
The questions are random and include general knowledge, cultural facts, old wives's tales, superstitions etc.
Any addition to this is very, very much welcome.
So, here we go.
Can you guess which of the following are true and which are false?
( Please briefly explain why if you can.)
(1) The Titanic film story is based on facts.
(2) All Arabs are Muslims.
(3) Chocolate gives you spots.
(4) Chickens can fly.
(5) Television was invented in the 1950s, after WW2.
(6) Many headaches are due to dehydration. So, drink a glass of water; no pills needed.
(7) Thomas Edison who invented the lightbulb was afraid of the dark.
(8) Hundreds of potentially harmful viruses and bacteria live in our mouths. Think before you French kiss!!
(9) In some societies, menstruating women are temporarily ostracized for fear of contamination.
(10) If a woman stares at a monkey while pregnant, her baby is likely to look like a monkey when it is born.
Please, have a go and offer your comments!
Add to the list, if it pleases you, too. That's the whole point of this new thread.

Hi FELICITY

Thank you for your answers. Guess what? You got 8 out of 10 right. Either you have another go, or let's see what other users say.
Well done!

(b) A day without laughter is a day wasted. (Charlie Chaplin)
(c) Give me a museum and I will fill it. (Pablo Picasso)
(d) First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. (Al-Capone)
(e) A pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. An optimist sees an opportunity in every difficulty.(Oscar Wilde)
(f) Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity. (Albert Einstein)
(g) History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it. (Julius caesar)
(h) I have nothing to declare except my genius [at US customs]. (Elizabeth Taylor)
(i) You can get more with a kind word and a gun than you can get with a kind word alone.(Mahatma Gandhi)

BM2R... u are funny. nice to have you start weird entertaining threads
to take a break from studying, here are my answers:
1.) F
2.) F
3.) T (pimples)
4. F
5. T
6. T
7. T
8. T (if you don't brush your teeth!)
9. T ..i wouldn't say they're ostracized, to practice abstinence while menstruating, it is not the same as getting ostracized.
10. F
It seems as if one fails to conceive
The meaning my name strives to achieve
To a biological form you cannot relate-
Because a reproductive cell is a gamete not gamate!
It means to unite, -to become consolidated
So without me in a.com, is there hope we'd be amalgamated?

You got 1,3 and 5 wrong, the rest is correct amalgamate. Compare your answers with those of Felicity if you want. Number 10 is widely believed to be true by many Algerian women, you know! Remember what is known as "attawa77um" , the period when women have all those funny urges for unusual food etc while pregnant . It is presumably also the period during which the baby is being 'formed into shape', nothing scientific about that but, who knows? Might be something they'll discover in 20 or 30 years time?! I kind of believe it...Mum does.
What about the a-j questions. To help you out, (a) is incorrect. It's Elizabeth Taylor who said that. (b) is true, typical of old Charlie Chaplin!
