Despair and misery are static factors. The dynamism of an uprising flows from hope and pride. Not actual suffering but the hope of better things incites people to revolt.

    Algerian women

Thanks HG111-are you a woman as well? Would like to know what traditions are followed after the birth of a child?
I have been to a 'birth party' here at my husbands sister-in-laws-despite her being very friendly towards me and welcoming no-one else spoke to me for the entire evening!
I came out thinking maybe I needed a bath or something!

My husband is a Berber, do the Berbers have different traditions to Arab Algerians or is it now a case of traditions being amalgamated?

    Thanks

    Cool

    HI,

I'd like to join this discussion - I am recently married to an Algerian man. I am North American and we are living in North America. My husband's mother and sisters were against our marriage and when he went hoem for ramadan even though they knew he had asked for my hand they stil arranged a marriage for him in Algeria so he had to leave home early. He literally left with the clothes on his back ..when he came back and I was unpacking his stuff and asking him where all his clothes were he had forgotten it there as he left in such a rush.

Anyway, now everyone wants to meet me...but I don't know what to expect when I meet them? My husband didn't want to go and visit them...but now all the family is together in Algeria and he wants to go.

    Any suggestions?
