Algeria is relativly safer than a decade ago, which is good. So I don't think you are taking any "big" risk unless
you expose your self to danger. Use good sens.

However It is much safer and practical if you have familly over there that you can stay at. They know what goes on and what places to avoid (if any) and maybe even places you must visit.

If you are staying for a considerable amount of time, present yourself to your surrounding as being "Algerian" who lives/grew up abroad
1- its an honnor for every one (since you already are half)
2- you will probably not attract "unwanted" attention as other foreingers might.

Any how this is only for the first days, once you have lived there for a while, you will melt in easily (if you are eager to) and you will be able to "navigate" using good sens and understanding of your surroundings

    Best of luck

    Hi Bro,

I appreciate your post and the decision you have made. However I am algerian and leave abroad but definitely will go back to Algeria in the future. However, I guess that is better if you plan to go there for a year and then make your decision if you mant to stay there to make your life.

For the safety it is much better than the 90s you can also have a look at the algerian newspapaers like elwatan.com this will give you a relatively good view about the actual current situation.

I encourage you to go and hopefuly you ll enjoy it there.

    Cheers,

    Post Hi.

    Hi ssew
I think that Boualem has given u very good advice.
But I still want to stress that studying aboard in general is not easy, especially if this is your first time without your familly! Have you ever lived in a foreign country? Did you study aboard? You should think about these issues before making any decision.
I would suggest you to stay in Algeria for 2 months or so (like pass all the vacations theire, and try to get an idea of normal life, in the place where u r going to be located, not 2 months in the beach ). It would not do you any harm, and you will not lose a school year.
I think it is even a better idea if you finish school in your country then move to Uni for one year in Algeria. In algeria Uni diplomas from aboard are hardly accepted, but High school exams are in genral, so you will do fine with an international baccalaurate or A-levels, french Bac... etc.
In case you decide to move, I would advice you to be very decent especially the first month or so, untill you get melted like Boualem suggested. Even if girls in Algeria are quite "modern" you should dress decently, it would denifitly avoid you some problems anyway. You should also try to have friends from "conservative" famillies, as some friends by definition cause more problems.
It also depends on where you are going to live, even in the same city it might be very different from place to place.
    I wish you good luck
