    Hello,
    I am a permanent Resident in Canada and I am now divorced and intend to marry and sponsor my former spouse to Canada.
    I am concerned about a clause in the Sponsor's guide as shown below :

    Excluded Relationships
    ----------------------
    You cannot sponsor a person as your spouse, common-law or conjugal parner if you are a permanent resident or naturalized citizen of Canada and at the time you made your application for permanent residence, that person was a non-accompanying family member, former spouse or common-law partner and was not examined;

    WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR A FORMER SPOUSE TO BE EXAMINED ? DOES IT MEAN I CANT SPONSOR MY FORMER SPOUSE ?

    Excluded relationships

    ---you have lived apart from your sponsor for at least one year and either you or your sponsor are the common-law or conjugal partner of another person;

    ---your sponsor is a permanent resident of Canada or a naturalized Canadian citizen and at the time of his or her application for permanent residence in Canada, you were a family member who was required to be examined to ensure that you met immigration requirements but you were not examined; or

    ---your sponsor previously sponsored another spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner and three years have not passed since that person became a permanent resident.

    For information on citizenship and immigration
    1 888 242-2100(in Canada only)
    For information on the Permanent Resident Card (PR Card)
    1 800 255-4541(in Canada only)

    you can call this 1-800 number and ask them questions without having to give them your name. I would use a pay phone just in case.

    good luck.
