Thanks.
He's told me about it before.
He's very happy and proud to be from there.
Just wondering if anyone wanted to share their thoughts about the city?
I hope to visit there someday. I am learning the Berber language.

Hi Tracy, I am engaged to a man from Tizi. I have seen pictures....very beautiful (the "Switzerland of Africa) lots of amazing mountains. The villages are rustic. I am impressed that you are learning the Berber language!! How are you doing it? As far as I know, there is no written form of the language. Are you just learning by listening? I am learning french - my fiance's second language. He also speaks English, but it is easier for him to talk about complicated concepts in french - therefore I want to be able to speak to him in french. I live in Portland, OR. Are you both living in the U.S.? Best of luck to you. I hope to travel to Tizi once we are married.

Hi, Tracy! My boyfriend is also from Tizi. I have been there last year and i am about to fly there again this saturday. What do you want to know about it? Tizi itself it aint that great but the region around is really very nice. I found a little dirty and loud.

Language Learning Resources
Hello Tracy, Danielle, and Copacabanagirl,
I wish you each the best in your future marriages and relationships to guys from Tizi-Ouzou. I was once married to a Kabyle guy and have remained friends with him over six years, despite the ups and downs and a lot of prayer. My encouragement to each of you, before you officially marry, is to ASK QUESTIONS!! Everything possible.....with any subject fair game. If you are 200% honest with each other, your love can have a fair chance.
Here's some additional resources for studying Tamazight:
"Spoken Kabyle: A Basic Course," by Joseph R. Applegate, UCLA. Note: this is a "pre-publication draft" of Applegate's thesis. You can find a copy by searching in an ERIC database. The full manuscript is 400+ pages, but it's really quite a good text.
"Lexique De Poche - Francais - Tamazight." This is a cute little French/Tamazight pocket dictionary that includes some pictures of everyday objects. So if you really get stuck, you can just point! It's available from Editons TALANTIKIT, Bejaia, Algeria, copyright 2000.
For more resources, do searches on any of the presenters/scholars who were at this 2005 conference at Portland State University. You'll find some fascinating info:
The Berbers and Other Minorities in North Africa
If you are specifically visiting Tizi-Ouzou, you may also want to study and learn -- and ask your guy to teach you!! -- the lyrics of "Tizi-Ouzou" by Idir ("Identities" album)...as well as the JSK anthem, of course.
Blessings at Christmas and in the New Year to each of you,
New_Friend
