Hi Tracy, I am engaged to a man from Tizi. I have seen pictures....very beautiful (the "Switzerland of Africa) lots of amazing mountains. The villages are rustic. I am impressed that you are learning the Berber language!! How are you doing it? As far as I know, there is no written form of the language. Are you just learning by listening? I am learning french - my fiance's second language. He also speaks English, but it is easier for him to talk about complicated concepts in french - therefore I want to be able to speak to him in french. I live in Portland, OR. Are you both living in the U.S.? Best of luck to you. I hope to travel to Tizi once we are married.

I was once married to a Kabyle guy and have remained friends with him over six years, despite the ups and downs and a lot of prayer. My encouragement to each of you, before you officially marry, is to ASK QUESTIONS!! Everything possible.....with any subject fair game. "Spoken Kabyle: A Basic Course," by Joseph R. Applegate, UCLA. Note: this is a "pre-publication draft" of Applegate's thesis. You can find a copy by searching in an ERIC database. The full manuscript is 400+ pages, but it's really quite a good text.

"Lexique De Poche - Francais - Tamazight." This is a cute little French/Tamazight pocket dictionary that includes some pictures of everyday objects. So if you really get stuck, you can just point! It's available from Editons TALANTIKIT, Bejaia, Algeria, copyright 2000.
