    Question

    Hello to everyone I am a canadian,and i am going to Algeria in August to get married i was told that my father should be present with me at the time of marriage, my father lives in another country, and my father cannot be with me. Can someone advice me on what i must do.Thank you very much.

    You might not need your father or your uncle there. The times are changing... slowly. Whoever it is that you are planning to marry should look into locating an Imam who will marry you without parent present. Finding such an Imam will require a lot of searching but it will be well worth it and keep in mind...they do exist.
    It should be explained that your father does not reside in the same country as you. Also, depending on how long you will be staying in Algeria, you need to start thinking about your civil ceremony aswell. It generally takes place a week after the union performed by the Imam. Your spouse should go to the city hall there and arrange for that ceremony so that you can get everything accomplished in one visit.
