ALGIERS, March 21 (Reuters) - The Algerian government said on Tuesday its forces killed 17,000 Islamist rebels during the conflict of the 1990s, the first time it had issued a figure for anti-government casualties for the decade.
The total was announced at a news conference for Algerian journalists by Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia, who did not say who he believed was responsible for the other 180,000 deaths, mostly civilians, resulting from the conflict.
The authorities normally blame the rebels for the bloodshed of the period....

The major violence lasted 10 years and not 15 years, where did they come up with the 15 years, the last 5 years it has been very secure and stable except very isolated cases in remote areas and it is classified as criminal cases rather than a conflict,
