ALGIERS, March 18 (KUNA) -- Interior minister Nureddin Zarhouni indicated on Saturday that freed dissidents would not be permitted to pursue political activities.

Those people who were previously involved in terrorist activities and have currently been reprieved would not be allowed to become politically active and to misuse religious propaganda for dire political ends that had in recent times brought much pain and suffering to the Algerian people, Zarhouni told Channel three of the state-run French-speaking radio station.

He said this ban was in accordance with the presidential decree number 26, while he emphasized that the freed dissidents would be reintegrated into the fabric of social life gradually.

More dissidents would be released from jail as the state had taken stringent measures against any would be trouble makers who might wish to stir up anti-government sentiments.

The government is giving six months for dissidents in the mountainous regions of the country to throw their weapons and take advantage of government reprieve policies
