Dangerous terrorist Bahri Djilali, who has sown fear in the Stambul Mountain, situated between Sidi Belabès and Mascara Wilayas, since the mid nineties, surrendered to Oran security services more than a week ago, reliable sources informed El Khabar. The terrorist is said to be a terrorist group’s chief.
He is to undergo cross-examination on crimes he committed. He is charged with having killed 12 teachers by late 1997 besides other victims of his terrorist attacks in the mid nineties when he was operating with the Islamic Armed Group. After that he moved to the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), of which he was a chief in the West of Algeria.
The terrorist in question was supposed to have been killed in many security operations. He was known as the “Starving Wolf” and was born in Ain Aden (Belabès), where the teachers were killed. The teachers’ families now are in touch with El Khabar and call for punishing the terrorist. Some families say his confessions should uncover those who participated in the assassination of the teachers and who may have benefited from the national reconciliation charter.

Algiers - The Algerian army killed nine Islamist militants in an ambush at the weekend, east of the capital, Algiers, said reports on Monday.
The militants belonged to the Al Farouk section of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), which was linked to the al-Qaeda network and authorities said it was the only armed Islamist group still active in Algeria.
The operation, which also seized weapons including assault rifles, took place at least 10 days after the ambush of an Algerian army patrol, near Bourmerdee, a GSPC stronghold, which left 10 soldiers dead and 13 wounded.
Earlier this month, interior minister Yazid Zerhouni said that the Islamist militant movement had lost up to 800 members "either taken prisoner, or killed or repentant", since a referendum on a charter for national reconciliation and peace was passed in September 2005, seeking to end the country's violence.

ALGIERS, Algeria: Algerian security forces killed five militants and captured two in a sweep of suspected terrorist hideouts in the eastern mountains, military officials said Saturday.
The gunmen were believed to belong to Roub el Mout, a branch of the GSPC, which has declared allegiance to al-Qaida and is viewed in the United States and Europe as an Islamic terrorist group.
Military officials in Collo, 500 kilometers (300 miles) east of Algiers, said security forces stormed the militants' bunker overnight, killing five and capturing two.
The army has been sweeping the forested region, considered a stronghold of the GSPC, the French acronym for the Salafist Group for Call and Combat.
The GSPC rejected a Charter for Peace and Reconciliation passed in a referendum a year ago that seeks to turn the page on an insurgency that has killed at least 150,000 since 1992. The plan included a pardon for some convicted terrorists and an amnesty for militants who turn themselves in. Critics say it denies victims' justice and whitewashes the Algerian government's role in the bloodshed.
Large-scale violence died down in the late 1990s, but skirmishes have continued in recent months.
Algerian newspapers reported Saturday that three soldiers and two security officers were killed in a clash with gunmen in the Biskra region, 450 kilometers (270 miles) southwest of Algiers.

November 26, 2006 (Reuters) - - Algerian rebels have killed seven soldiers in the latest attack on government forces by militants seeking to set up a purist Islamic state, a newspaper said today.
The independent daily El Khabar said the troops clashed with militants belonging to the al Qaeda-aligned group, the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), in Batna province, 435km east of the capital Algiers yesterday. The newspaper said a large-scale military offensive against rebels was going on in the area, where two soldiers were killed three days ago.
It was the worst attack since November 11, when seven soldiers died during clashes with rebels in Bouira province, 120km east of Algiers. Authorities were not immediately available for comment...
