Head of Algerian security service assassinated

Algiers, February 25, 2010 -- The head of the Algerian security service DGSN, Ali Tounsi, was murdered on Thursday, Algerian television reports said. According to the report, Tounsi was killed in his Algiers office by an auxilliary police officer. Unofficial sources said the alleged killer then took his own life. The online edition of the daily Le Matin reported that police and army units have cordoned off the city.

Ali Tounsi assassiné dans son bureau

Jeudi 25 Février 2010 -- Le patron de la DGSN, Ali Tounsi a été mortellement atteint par plusieurs balles tirées par un officier, au cours d’une réunion avec ses collaborateurs au siège de la DGSN, jeudi matin aux alentours de 9h00. Selon des sources concordantes, l’officier auteur des coups de feu, a également tiré, dans un moment de colère noire, sur tous ses collègues présents à la réunion. De nombreux officiers ont été blessés. On ne connait pas encore les raisons qui ont poussé cette officier à commetre l’irréparable. Ali Tounsi serait décédé après son admission à l’hopital.

Algerian police chief shot dead - security sources

ALGIERS, February 25, 2010 (Reuters) -- The chief of Algeria's national police, Ali Tounsi, has been shot dead inside police headquarters, security sources told Reuters on Thursday. Asked about reports that Tounsi had been shot dead, one of the security sources told Reuters: "I can confirm that information but I cannot give you any details for now." A second security source said that Tounsi had been shot inside his office.

Police chief shot dead by former aide

February 25, 2010 -- Algerian security sources were quoted by Alarabiya as saying on Thursday that the country's Director General of National Security, Colonel Ali Tounsi died of his wounds in hospital after being shot from a pistol owned by a former police colonel. Tounsi was shot while in his office. According to the sources, the shooter was the head of the police helicopter units. There was no accurate information about the circumstances of the incident that rocked the police and various other security forces in Algeria. But sources told Alarabiya they had heard a gunshot in the office of Tounsi. The sources added the attacker acted in retaliation for Tounsi's decision to remove him from office. Meanwhile, an Algerian website reported that "Colonel Ali Tounsi was a victim to an armed attack in his office by one of his aides." Tounsi was a former officer in the Algerian intelligence. Three years ago, he was subjected to an assassination attempt, which was part of efforts by Islamists to target the state's security services leaders.

Le chef de la police nationale abattu à Alger

ALGER, Jeudi 25 Février 2010 (Reuters) -- Le chef de la police algérienne, Ali Tounsi, a été tué lors d'une fusillade à Alger au siège de la police nationale, apprend-on de sources proches des services de sécurité. "Je peux vous confirmer cette information mais je ne peux pas vous fournir de détails pour l'instant", a déclaré l'un des sources. Une autre source a précisé qu'Ali Tousni avait été abattu dans son bureau du quartier-général de la police, qui se situe dans le quartier de Bab-el-Oued, près du front de mer.

Le chef de la police Ali Tounsi assassiné

Jeudi 25 Février 2010 -- Le directeur général de la sûreté nationale Ali Tounsi a été assassiné par balles jeudi par un collaborateur lors d'une réunion dans son bureau au siège de la police à Alger, a annoncé le ministère algérien de l'Intérieur. "Le décès de M. Ali Tounsi est survenu à 10H45 (09H45 GMT) lors d'une séance de travail au cours de laquelle un cadre de la police, apparemment pris d'une crise de démence, a utilisé son arme et blessé mortellement le colonel Ali Tounsi, après quoi il a retourné l'arme contre lui se blessant gravement", a précisé le ministère dans un communiqué. L'auteur de l'assassinat a été hospitalisé, selon la même source. Une enquête judiciaire a été ouverte pour "déterminer les circonstances de ce douleureux événement", est-il ajouté dans le texte.
