Go and read the context of the laws, ya voltaire, until you do you run the risk of saying things you might regret. This is Algeria.com, and not surprisingly a lot of Algerian Muslims visit the site, as do a lot of Muslims from other parts of the world. So you're going to find more Algerians and Muslims here than you are on 'Proselytizing is cool with me.com', sa7? You are implying that Algerian society is bigoted - what kind of people might come from a 'bigoted society' eh? Rather than lay down such an implicit slur, read up a little on the reasons underlying the relevant laws in Algeria.
I see you're not a fan of "When in Rome do as the Romans do" either![]()

Hello Voltaire
how are you ?
Well I dont know what to really say
So have you ever been to algeria?
Do you know different people from Algeria , I mean from different parts of Algeria ?
I can tell that even if it is about religion , it is about politicis now a days infortunatly .
In Algeria lots of things are said about that are not really true , as we all know the media can do of a country what they want , if you can't go and see for your self , you wont know .
So dear friend
I just want to tell you that I grow up knowing jews and christians and catholiques that are true Algerians , isen't that unbelievable ?
I even went to school with a couple of christian girls that are Algerians , and still to this day friend with one of them ,
Even though life for them is not easy in Algeria , it hasen't been for a lots of Algerians no matter what their religion is . Targetting people with different religion in Algeria is defenetly political , and I am sure the same happens in your country .
Now for muslims to convert to christianity , I believe that the ones who do , have no clue what islam is about , of cource they are targeted to make them convert to christianity or else .
A real muslim that has a minimal education about islam would not convert , because his believe are strong . and know what islam is .
The ones who do convert though , probably do it , because they believe that christianity is easier to practice and deal with , I actually worked , with a guy from another country , who married an american lady and converted to christianity from islam , when I asked him why (just to satisfy my curiosity
as I'm very curious
) he said because it was easy
easy
easy
. well .
This coworker is a good friend also , and it is his business and his life .
I am sorry for what a minority is doing to Islam , but it is a religion of tolerence , love , forgiveness , and a lots of other amazing things .
I agree with you though, that anybody is free to convert to what ever they wish or drawn to .
I hope it not to confusing and political , I am not good at that
I just want to add , contrarely at what we read and hear Algerians are tolerant people , and if it wasen't for terrorisme , we all lived in peace .

Don't put words into my mouth Al-K.
Let's get one thing very clear. I did not say that Algerian society is bigoted, I said that a particular law sounds that way. I would make similar criticisms if the same law were applied in reverse in a Western country. So with all due respect, such "implied slurs" as are going on here are not emanating from me.
You'll be staggered to know that I am indeed aware this is Algeria.com and that most of its members are Muslims... what's more, I respect those members sufficiently to be open and honest about my views, and to enter into proper debate about those views where they differ with others. Which seems to me perfectly proper.
And no, I'm not fan of "when in Rome" etc, which is an assimilationist argument. I'm a multi-culturalist. One aspect of that, is that I believe in the freedom of followers of all religions to preach their faith. You evidently don't support that same universal freedom, so we therefore disagree. But don't pretend that the basis of the disagreement is other than it is.

Yeahhh for multicultiralism and tolerence
I am not joking
You know religion politics , are like money inherited by one brother who gets killed over and the vengence by his kids goes on for centuries .
Kind the saga of the godfather , right ?

salam ya voltaire,
Hot off the presses, the U.S. State Department's 2006 report on human rights around the world gives an overview of the situation in Algeria, plus there is a link within that post to a more detailed look at religious freedoms.
